A Little Back Story

As a Whole Hog Lighting Console Programmer, the jobs I was often working on only needed 1-2 universes each per stage for multiple stages.  The PC Server/SuperWidget setup seemed to be the most ideal and economical solution. In my server cabinet, I was unhappy with the loose parts from my super widget.

As a programmer, I knew I needed to see my status lights for piece of mind that everything is working well. But at the same time, I needed to be able to access my DMX ports.  The SuperWidget sat on a shelf sideways so that I could access both, but this was not ideal. It was not locked down and if I had to move the server, I always had to double check all the connections.

There had to be a better way.

So I found a way to mount the SuperWidget with the LED lights facing out and made DMX jumpers to mount to the front panel.  I also wanted a part that could work for both of my SuperWidgets: the new black style and the older blue style. I shared the my homemade bracket with a few colleagues and they were very interested in the piece.  And the HOG DMX SuperBracket was born.  I used high quality Neutrik connectors with DMX cable of 120 impedance. I needed the quality of the cable to be top notch and it is.

I thought, if this was something I found useful, maybe other programmers in the Hog community would as well. We had a prototype built just in time for Live Design International in Las Veags in 2013.  At the conference, interest grew tremendously.

Now with the prototype refined, the HOG DMX SuperBracket is on the market.
